Bengali quiz

This is for all you out-of-town folks who don't have Quizzo in your towns....

Some of you may know that I had to host a quiz show this weekend. I included a sample of some of the questions here so y'all can test yourselves too.

Take the Bengali quiz and then Check out the Scoreboard!

(Feel free to post how you did..... I want to know if I made the questions too hard/easy)

The quiz was good. the Amartya Sen question was great. My dad had just mentioned him to me, on sunday, but I was busy reading the paper. I guess I should pay attention more.

Personally, I thought that questions were a healthy mix of Bangladeshi, Bengali, and South Asian culture. However, you should have had a language question, "like what is the bengali word for spider? or something, like that where its easy but not used in the everyday bengali-american's vocabulary.
Maybe that would make your friend with multiple-personality disorder feel less insecure about his heritage.

yeah there were too many bangladeshi questions... are you forgetting Subash Chandra Bose, Indian indepedence leader?

and if we throw in Bihar, we got Laloo Prasdad, the most corrupt indian politican, i think he has like 20 kids too.

and what about darjeeling and the tea? that all bengali.

plus you should had one on why bengali's are naturally smarter then all other indians. and then written it as a mathematical proof. yeah thatd be cool.

am i the mulitple personality?

Well Rock Star it doesn't look like having a Bangla question on the quiz would have improved your score any. The answer I was looking for was "Makrosha" the Bengali word I know for spider. This of course isn't concrete because they might just be synonyms, but I've never heard the word "ashola" were you thinking of "ass-hola"? I think that's Spanish if I'm not mistaken, but I'm no expert. You should still be pretty content with your score. You did pretty well. Shoot I got an 80 too and I was born over there.

Chowda aka Crazy One, I was referring to rockstarandtheniff as the "personality disorder" being that his name refers to two people. Not very clever I know... Nonetheless I do agree that Bengalis are smarter than other Indian races. I used to think our only problem was that we were also a lazy bunch known for "adda marra" but seeing that you were studying at 5 am, I guess maybe I was wrong.

im not gettin into anything just wanna make two points-

one i think bengalis work really hard. maybe not as hard as gujratis or some other peoples, but look at the informal sector in kolkata. there are people busting their ass for a dollar.

two- amartya sen is the greatest indian/bengali alive today. theres no debate one way or the other. his work is revolutionary and brilliant cant begin the influence he has had on economics, international institutions, the way we look at the poor etc. its not that hes a Nobel laureate, read anything by him and your perspective on life will change. his seminal/most popular book is called "Development as Freedom" it changed everything for me. i can recommend other books if anyone is interested. i plan on reading more on him this summer.

Honestly, I really don't believe Bengalis are lazy. Rather, I feel they have unfairly gotten that reputation.

The "adda marra" reference was to an article that came out in a major Atlanta newspaper the week before Bongoshamelon came to Atlanta (a few years back). This was an American newspaper that dedscribed us as destinctive because of our gossiping, not our intellegence or hardwork.

Anyway getting back to the original issue here...this was a quiz for a Bangladeshi Association if I'm not mistaken. Naturally there are going to be Bangladeshi questions, but it wasn't like she asked you about the names of the different political parties in Bangladesh in 1970.

the test was great, but you should have a few culinary q's. the gastronomical conswquences of our bengali cuisine should bridge the gap between the east and west sides of the ganges. "jhaal" on both ends of digestion, but i wouldn't have it any other way
